Lost in a forest... with Finrod?

I chose Adanel as my character, and was simul-prompted by elennalore (lost in a forest) and himring (met with Finrod) so I combined them into two drabbles.

Read Lost in a forest... with Finrod?

Part One:
The late afternoon sunlight streaming through the trees had made the forest flowers appear to be glowing with magic, enticing young Adanel further than ever before. Then suddenly it dimmed, the trees’ song changing with it to their evening tune. So mesmerised had she been by the colours that she had strayed from the path and now no longer knew in which direction it lay. Pushing down the slate grey of fear’s creeping call in her belly, she turned her back to the sunset and started walking, posy clutched tight as if its colours could ward off any dark dangers.

Part Two:
Her colours of hope faded with the light. Stepping over a fallen branch resembling a goblin’s arm for the second time, Adanel realised she’d been going in circles and was well and truly lost. She finally succumbed to the welling sobs that till now she’d managed to push down, but only with great effort of will. Then, through vision wavery with tears, she perceived a faint glow resolving into a tall man. His colours felt safe and reassuring, so much so that when he offered her his hand she took it without hesitation, confident they’d find their way home together.

I'm pleased you like my descriptions. I think of her as having inherited the ability to perceive the true nature of living things in colours from her foremother Fraiwen.

It was most unfortunate Finrod was wandering in the forest at that time—for the unseeen wolf lurking between the lines, that is...

Yes, that just sort of happened in this one.

I guess she inherits this synesthetic trait from her great grand foremother, my half-maiarin OC Fraiwen who has the (as-yet-only-partially-written) ability to deeply perceive the nature or mood of living things in the way we might see or hear something more tangible. But since the human part of her neurology lacks the capacity to interpret the signals in the way a Maia might, her brain translates them into a form of colour and sound. I suppose in Adanel this is very watered down through the generations, but it's partly what contributed to her being considered wise among her people.

Just like her foremother, it's always been this way for her so until she's older she just assumes everyone perceives the world in the same way and becomes a little confused when people don't understand what she's talking about. I imagine some perceptive Elves relate though, and I think Finrod would definitely be one.

Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for the comment and the thoughts that spouted!
