So I heard somewhere, although I cannot at ALL confirm the accuracy of this, that there was some period in Qing China where government officials were not allowed to marry musicians? Anyway true or not it makes for good angst fodder.

A guqin is an instrument (according to my cursory research) favored by scholars for its "great subtlety and refinement"...naturally Maglor had to learn this one.
