The thematic and structural prompts for Tolkien Short Fanworks this month both made me think of the UK shipping forecast - probably because of this piece by Himring, of which I am very fond. (I'm not a sailor, but I used to listen to the shipping forecast on occasion, if I was up at strange times for work.) Fingon's journal entries follow the same four-category structure, with brief comments against each one.
