Another Dark Matter prompt, this time, I wasn't allowed to use commas, and oh dear, that was difficult.

I love my subclauses fiercely.

But I did it! 100 words without a single comma!

The ground shakes with the steps of a thousand feet.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

The army is on the move.

Death follows in its wake. A cloud of dust trailing the banners. It chokes the land they cross.  Heavy boots trample all life in their path.

Boom.

Boom.

Boom.

The drums keep them in line. Order amidst a cacophony. They care little for secrecy. Let everyone hear them come. There is no escape.

The world burns around them.

Creak.

Creak.

Crack.

Earth shatters. Gaping maws swallow them whole. Disaster does not discriminate between friend and foe. They are united in death.

The terse sentences are very effective and really enhance the mood. Great choice for the prompt.

I'm glad you think so! 

I was worried they would seem too disconnected and stumbly. I read it back and felt like I was tripping on cobblestones in high heels (which experience tells me is not a fun combination XD)

So I'm very happy to hear that this was a case of "we are our own harshest critic"
