My spirit will fly, and you –

This prompt came from the Revolution challenge: four words from the song "Defying Gravity" from Wicked: hurt, delusions, tandem, fly.

Celebrimbor/Sauron.

Read My spirit will fly, and you –

“Stop. You’re hurting me.”

“I must, for you don’t give me the answers I need.”

“I have given you everything I can. A refuge. A partnership. My love.”

“I had delusions that you would be the one who understood me.”

“Oh, I understand you. I just disagree with you.”

“We could work in tandem to change the world.”

“Now you are really delusional. You just don’t get it.”

“With you by my side. Nothing else matters.”

“I won’t stay by your side. When this is over, my spirit will fly to Aman, and you’ll be alone for all eternity, Sauron.”

Sea spray

The prompt was: The cure for anything is salt water - sweat, tears, or the sea.

Character: Elros.

Read Sea spray

One day, his people would build ships more magnificent than the ones that carried them westward. Elros could smell the ocean, there was salt in the air. He knew he would learn to love it one day. In the sky, the star of his father showed them the way. Behind him: Middle-earth and his brother he would never see again.

The sea spray went into his eyes, or perhaps it was the wind, and tears started rolling down his face. It was a bittersweet moment, like all new starts were. Gulls still followed the ship, but his brother was elsewhere.

Our love broke this land

The prompt was a snippet of song from the song "Hunger" by Robinson and Rohe, here covered by Vienna Teng. https://www.youtube.com/clip/UgkxdmKnTgORu9DccoJeItBrYrMR1P5sMylB

Character: Mairon (Mairon/Melkor), after the War of Wrath.

Read Our love broke this land

Our love was too powerful for this land. It broke the earth and dried the rivers; it hid the stars from view. It was the death of the land, but we realised it too late. Perhaps you didn’t realise it at all.

I wonder if our love will endure now that you are gone. It is in my blood, it is in my song, but your fall has made me bloodless and mute. I don’t know what to do, and it scares me. If I cry to the stars, will they even hear me? Dry earth crumbles under my feet.

Ouch! Celebrimbor's pain and bitterness, and Mairon still trying.

And poor Elros, such mixed feelings, and such grief.

I've never considered how devastatingly alone Mairon must have felt in that moment.
