Outstanding characterization of Sauron and a very plausible Numenorean backdrop.
Sauron recounts the first human sacrifice in the temple of Armenelos.

A fascinating story - forgive me that I like it even more than the Serinde stories. Wonderful recreation of Second Age Middle-earth/Aman, and very credible and nautical and also rather magic.
I think the Valar might have noticed, and let the mariners go because they did sail East and weren't trying to violate the Ban.
During the reign of Tar-Ancalimë, a group of Númenórean mariners find something that surprises and alarms them in their explorations.

A fascinating and unusual tale. Excellent knowledge of smithing blends with Feanorian history and of course, the characterization of Sauron, disciple of Aule that he was, and the very young Celebrimbor.
The children of elves die easily, for their souls are thinly bound to their bodies and their fate is to endure but not survive. So when faced with a young hostage he really can't afford to let fade away, Sauron is very careful not to do anything too traumatizing.
(Mostly.)
Luckily Feanor's grandson is an interesting child to babysit.
