Fanwork Notes

...divided we fall.

I was talking with am_fae about this particular reunion and its inherent tension and awkwardness and she has some great angst headcanons about Maglor's time as high king of the Noldor so here we are.

I also like to call this fic "Fingolfin's 30 year string of bad days continues in stellar fashion" or "Maglor really needs a hug"

Such an interesting look at how this reunion could have gone, and you are absolutely right -- Maglor is not cut out to be king. With Celegorm's temperament the way it is, I can absolutely see it falling to Caranthir to keep things running from day to day. He may have a temper, but we know he's capable of being practical about things, given how Thargelion prospered under him. And your characterization of Fingolfin and his reaction to Fëanor's death was A+. This was a really excellent story.

Thank you! 100% agree about Caranthir--he may be temperamental but I feel like he does well with managing a bureaucratic day-to-day. He has an eye for details and organizing. I'm so glad to hear this! Fingolfin is one of my favs so I wanted to do him justice. He was prepared for a lot of things entering Middle-earth (especially re: Feanor) but somehow totally unprepared for Feanor being gone already. No matter how you view their relationship, Feanor is just one of those people who's larger than life, so I feel like processing his sudden absence would be difficult.

I read it seriously, feeling the pain and tension, until Curvo, in Curvo fashion, caused a commotion. Fair, it was caused by Aredhel and Finrod roaming around like sneaky but not subtle grey squirrels, but still. Curvo gotta Curvo
