About Me

I'm a father, an Engineer, ex-RAF, author, councillor, space geek and, of course, a long-term Tolkien geek.

I discovered the world of Middle-Earth as a child through first The Hobbit and then the Lord of the Rings as a thirteen-year-old, pressing on to Unfinished Tales (yes, before the Silmarillion, which did make the first couple of stories a bit perplexing, especially when trying to place them on the map!), the Silmarillion, and then experiencing more confusion with Lost Tales...

As a teen and student, I played Middle Earth Role Playing (MERP) in days of yore, and, when the Internet bloomed, I ended up joining the Tolkien newsgroups (rec.arts.books.tolkien and alt.fan.tolkien).  They sadly became effectively defunct in the early Noughties (activity dropped off hugely as newsgroups themselves became practically obsolescent).

Apart from being involved in Tolkien-centred sub-forums or even just threads on other sites over the years (I contributed to and very much enjoyed Corsair_Caruso's thread on alternatehistory.com and have been saddened that he appears to have either abandoned his story or lost interest in Tolkien or otherwise been unable to continue), I haven't been much involved in Tolkien fandom since the newsgroups.  Well, apart from some contributions on Quora, but I'm not sure how much that counts.

I stumbled across SWG after, I think, finding Dawn Felagund's essay on Caranthir the Slandered and finding myself highly impressed with the reasoning.  I've quietly wandered through some tumblr sites and fanfiction sites on Middle-Earth stories that have interested me.  I've written a couple of short stories in the First or Second Age myself, but not that much fanfiction-wise (I have written and published some original fiction as well, but writing is writing). I remain fascinated by Tolkien's world and have found that the quality of fanfiction can be as high (or low) as the quality of any other sort of fiction.

Anyway - it's fairly late and I've been rambling on for a while.  The above may give you a brief picture of me (but, hopefully, not my writing: I'm usually a little less rambling than this!)

This is a Writing fanworkThe Silmarillion TV Series by AndyC

"Try your hand at a form of fanwork you have not done before"

It has been said that the Silmarillion is unfilmable.  That's probably true - but could it be made into a TV series as per Game of Thrones? (With, hopefully, a better ending).

This will (I hope) contain the suggested scripts for episodes of various seasons of a Silmarillion TV series.
