About Me

I first encountered Tolkien's work in a very old children's anthology containing the original version of "Riddles in the Dark."  I was 13.  When the main character said "a blade which came out of Gondolin!" a chill ran up my spine and I wanted to weep.  I didn't know who the hobbit, the wizard, the dwarves, or old Gollum were, or where or what Gondolin was, but I sensed something immensely powerful.  I tracked down and read The Hobbit and LotR, then spent the balance of my teen years jonesing for the Silmarillion to be published.  When it finally came out, I read it in a weekend and spent most of that Sunday afternoon drawing out a color-coded Elvish genealogy chart; I was hooked! 

My legendarium interests run to the early history of the Elves, philology, early and superseded texts, and the forms of subcreation practiced by Elves.   I'm particularly fascinated by the challenges to JRRT's worldbuilding brought on by the problems of Míriel Þerindë and Galadriel.

I'm unlikely to write much fanfic, since my taste runs more to researching (but never getting around to writing) essays on single motifs.  But I enjoy consuming it  in a community that so closely matches my particular geekdom.
