About Me
Writer of fanfiction, obsessed with The Silmarillion. My non-Silmarillion-based fiction is posted on Archive of Our Own at Oshun.
Also, I usually write a monthly biography of characters of The Silmarillion here on the SWG, archived under "Periodicals," Character of the Month Biographies. "Aulë the Smith" placed First in Non-Fiction: Character Studies in the 2008 MEFAs. In the 2009 MEFAs, “Elwing the White” received Second Place in Non-Fiction: General and “Fingon The Valiant” received an Honorable Mention in Non-Fiction: General.

Arakáno by oshun
J.R.R. Tolkien never fully communicated how he intended Arakáno to fit into the Silmarillion, but his notes provide us with some clues about this fourth child of Fingolfin.

Anárion Son of Elendil by oshun
Anárion is one of the characters that acts as a direct link between the histories of The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings. This biography considers his role in Tolkien's larger themes, his place in the legendarium, and thorny fannish questions about his status related to Isildur.

Aegnor by oshun
Like so many Silmarillion characters, Aegnor has a complex and sometimes contradictory textual history. A fiery warrior and romantic with a heart of gold that could belong only to a son of Finarfin, Aegnor is one of The Silmarillion's many fascinating minor characters.

Gentleman's Night Out by oshun, Tanis
The Hangover Redux set at the victory celebration at the Fields of Cormallen following the Battle of the Morannon, starring Legolas, Elladan, Elrohir, and Prince Erchirion of Dol Amroth. No, seriously, it is a consideration of Laws and Customs of the Eldar, Morgoth’s Ring, Volume 12, History of Middle-earth, with particular attention given to Noldorin, Sindarin, Silvan and Gondorian interpretations of that essay. (Actually, it is really not very serious.)

Women Find a Room of Their Own in Tolkien Fanfiction by oshun
As a genre belonging almost exclusively to women, fanfiction creates a "room of their own," apart from mainstream publishing that is often hostile to women, for women authors to critically and creatively explore ideas in popular texts and, in the style of Tolkien, create new mythologies that appeal to them.

Summer's End by oshun
New Chapter: The Wild Hunt (Chapter 9)
For the Noldor, the personal is always political. This story has humor, conflict, scandal, and a crazy mixture of discord and affection, which characterize the Finweans as I write them. This story is set shortly before the founding of Nevrast, before the Mereth Aderthad.

Trash Fire by oshun
This is a prequel (intro?) to a story of how young Fëanor and Nerdanel find an important cache of old documents. Posting it now while people are reading other entries into the Notion Club Revival Challenge--the element used herein is the Cave System Map: parchment fragment of a cave system map with labeled features. I get a kick out of the idea of Nerdanel and Fëanor, young and newly enamored with one another. Hope you enjoy it.
